G.H.A.P.O. PROMOTING SOCIAL RESPONSIBILTY IN ASSOCIATION
WITH THE ETI-OSA LG. LAGOS STATE
In April 2009 a health screening campaign was conducted in Eti-Osa local government of Lagos State in Nigeria, West Africa. The health indices GHAPO assessed within certain limitations include blood pressure, body mass index, and blood sugar with specific personal identifiers.
Statistical analysis using Stata 9.2 was done on normally distributed data retrieved during the April 2009 health screening campaign conducted in association with the Lagos State Government in Nigeria, West Africa.
In summary the body mass index (BMI) values had an average mean of 28 but were evenly distributed across all age groups and educational backgrounds, with over 34% having a BMI > 29. Therefore, it can be inferred from the study that a large percentage of the sample population have a risk of developing heart disease from hypertension. However, a significant number were also found to be also at risk from high blood sugar levels and increased BMI. It also appears that increase blood sugar values appear to be associated with raised SBP than raised DBP.
